A Wife Goes Undercover
Canadian actress Jewel Staite stars in this TV movie about a widow of an FBI agent who goes undercover to investigate a white collar criminal cartel headed by a certain Collin Murphy in order to investigate the murder of her husband and help the bureau to bring it down.John Cassini, Ryan Robbins and Leah Gibson co-star with Staite in this Lifetime made-for-television film thriller directed by Chad Krowchuk. An accountant and wife of an FBI agent Josh Bolland, who was recently killed by the criminal cartel wherein he serves as an undercover,Monica Bolland has been accused by the FBI Internal Affairs of being involved in the murder of her husband.Being the main suspect, she decided to clear her name by doing an investigation of her own in the said criminal cartel six months after she has renewed her identity. She first worked as a bar tender in a familiar place that the criminal cartel head Collin Murphy is normally seen. Then she worked her way into becoming a bookie in their criminal group to investigate he husband's death and to bring them down to the FBI. Knowing it to be a Lifetime TV movie thriller,we surely are going to expect that Monica is going to succeed in her undercover by bringing the syndicate down despite her inexperience in doing that kind of work and not being part of the FBI.Her partnership with an FBI agent named Isaac proved to be a successful one in bringing down the criminals. But added to that,we also have awkward subplots in it that a viewer would either find silly or implausible.Among them is the romance that develops between Monica and a con man without a heart of a criminal named Aiden. No question that was underdeveloped as we find both sleeping together after only two scenes. The only thing one could notice is that Aiden and Josh are both bearded individuals that is why Monica fell for them. Also, both barely knew each other and the success of their getaway romance in the end could be placed with a big question mark. Added to that, the love triangle between Josh and the bar tender Gemma together with Monica.Apparently,Monica discovered that her husband was having an affair doing his undercover work.Their friendship was also underdeveloped that both were surprised to learn about one another that only provided viewers shock and surprise. Both subplots provided us unexpected or better yet silly conclusions when Monica and Aiden got together to live happily ever after in another country while Gemma has a lot of responsibility in Josh's murder. In spite of how these subplots contributed to the whole story,it was evident that they did provided a lot of surprises to the viewer on how the story progressed and concluded.Overall, the TV movie avoided predictability and clichés entirely by adding awkward subplots.
Predictable
Again LMN doesn't disappoint you. Here the leading lady attempts to be a spy with obvious give-away clues as to her phony disguise. She goes around stealing information and snooping into the villains stuff. And no one catches her. When finally she is caught we all cheer hooray. All these LMN snoopy females are boring and unrealistic. Plot is boring, acting is boring and story line is very boring. Nothing really happens in this movie. We wait 2 hours to see the leading lady win her case. Boring. Nothing really exciting happens in this silly film. I found all the actors as silly in their portrayals as well. Not one outstanding performance. Typical LMN acting going nowhere. Oh, yes, the music is good. But that is all.
