The Right Way (2004) Reviews
"Draws you in right from the start"
The Right Way hits viewers with themes of isolation, helplessness and fear of failure (amongst others). I would guess that there is seldom a member in the audience that cannot find a way to relate to these characters in some way. If not personally, then certainly through the lives/experiences of someone close to them. Mark Penney has definitely brought the film to a darker place than many filmmakers are willing to go - but has accomplished it in a tactful and empathic way. Though the story was full of emotion and naturally demanded acting that could bring it to life - I felt that Karyn's portrayal of Amy in some scenes was slightly on the verge of over acting. All in all...I was exceptionally impressed with The Right Way and look forward to more of Mark Penney's work.
Wow!!!
I saw this movie at CineQuest and it was very good!!! The main characters were very troubled, dealing with many issues but very easy to relate with and very believable. It really showed how blurry the lines between right and wrong are. The acting was great, and you had to feel pity for Amy the way it was pulled off by Karyn Dwyer. James McGowan (David's Father) had to give one of the best performances I have ever seen in movies. I haven't seen anything like this before and it felt very similar to the problems I face in my own life. It was very sad to see at the end that it was dedicated to someone who died in 2004. RIP.... I highly recommend it 10/10
Interesting Film
I recently attended a test screening for a small film called "The Right Way" and I was absolutely shocked with the quality of the film, it dealt with two protagonists Amy and David and how they deal with their troubled suburban lives, Amy comes from a more than typical broken home with a single mother played masterfully by Gloria Slade. David (played well by Jefferson Brown) comes from a traditional family home. When Amy and David get together it leads to dire consequences. I thought the film was very well-made, and thought the acting was superb with the exception of Karyn Dwyer in some of the big emotional scenes. I'm not really a big fan of digital video, but in this film I think it really captured the essence of family life. all in all I give it a 9 out of 10.
Dwyer is the heart and soul
Dwyer's performance as Amy is so real it keeps you rooting for her. She doesn't get all sappy and sentimental and try to tug at your heartstrings. She reminded me of girl I used to know. She tries to be strong but is really so vulnerable. I really felt for her. Especially the last scene at the end with her Mom. It was really touching. I would like to see more of her. I saw the film at Cinequest and was surprised at how gritty it was. James McGowan is good too and the film makers did a lot with a shockingly low budget. But the real reason to see the film is definitely Dwyer.
CRAP!!!!!
Too boring to watch. I stayed with it for about 40 minutes. I had to turn it off. Don't waste your time. One of those "Who Cares About These People Anyway" kinds of movies. "Same old, same old".
