Die Ongelooflike Avonture van Hanna Hoekom (2010) Reviews
Not your below average lame South African Movie.
I must say we where pleasantly surprised by this movie. In general we don't like movies in the Afrikaans genre, however this story was different as well as the execution. The plot is hard to explain, but it is about a dysfunctional family discovering each other while stuck in nature in a mountain cabin. (Not as cheesy as it sounds) The main character is a young girl who tries to plan a thriller novel, she comes up with crazy fantasies projecting them onto her family. These included her mom being eaten by a giant flower and her step father being electrocuted by a dentist tooth drill. Anna-Mart is a colourful artist-hippie-mother and Gys plays a rugged, yet friendly and loving step-dad. Some of the children's acting has been found wanting. Seeing Helen in spandex was also a scream. The special effects where done well as well as the lighting. Loved the use of ink as an effect. If you like a bit of fantasy mixed with reality - this film is for you.
