Iiris, 25, who has worked odd jobs abroad for years, returns to her native Finland for the summer because her best friend Karoliina, 25, has found a summer job for them both in Hanko. The girls will work in a cafeteria in a holiday town on the south coast. The idea is to spend one more care-free summer with your soul mate, enjoying the beaches and bars of Hanko - without worries of the summer job opening up a career for you of looking good in your resume... And when the girls make friends with their slightly odd workmate Eeva, 25, the makings of a perfect summer seem to be in order. But Iiris has a crisis of growing up, Karoliina falls head over heels for a married man and Eeva is once again struggling to get into the University - these are just a few clouds over total freedom and ease. Iiris is depressed about her return to Spain - but if she would stay in Finland, she'd have to figure out what to do with her life. And meeting a way-too-perfect tennis instructor, Jussi, doesn't help ...

Decent Chick Flick for guys
Watched this out of curiosity as it was not the sort of thing I would generally go for. It has a pretty decent script and covers some serious matters while having a couple of hilarious, unexpected moments. On balance a pretty solid but lightweight film, with good all round acting performances and directing. I enjoyed it and it was a bit of an antidote to the clichéd Hollywood film sausage factory. The women in the film had enough depth for me to empathize and for them to seem real. The men were almost props to the action, if you'll excuse the Freudian slip. I'm not much good at waffling on, I need the ten lines for the review. Get it out and watch it with a female friend.
Good for a view
Its not a bad movie. There are some funny moments and some emotional moments and some romantic ones, all well done. But at the same time, one cannot fight off the feeling that the movie would have done better if it were a bit shorter. A little more than one hour into the movie, it already felt like it was stretching the story. Making it a bit concise could have worked in its favor. It felt like it was trying to fit every Hollywood cliché about this genre of movies into a single movie, which would have been OK if they had made it slightly more compact in terms of running time. I liked the leads, but it is the two actresses in the supporting roles of Eeva and Iiris' big sister that really kill it in their respective roles. The male actors are little more than props in the story, which is fine by me. This is a story around female characters and Hollywood has marred many such movies by casting prominent actors in lead roles, which actually take away from a female-centric story. Good for a one time watch.
