Annie Garriet is a young woman who moves with her irresponsible husband Ross and their seven-year-old daughter Taylor from Colorado to a ranch in northern California where Ross abandons them after he fails to land a job. With no money and no friends, and Taylor and Annie's prized racehorse, Tolo, to look after, Annie lands a job at a ranch hand and stable person at a stud farm owned by the stern Mary Lou O'Brien who is hiding some person demons of her own. Despite Annie's own setbacks in life, she decides to find an outing by entering her horse in a high-stakes riding competition. But when her horse goes blind from a race illness, Annie must struggle with her hardships to put the impossible to the test.

A heart-warming story about overcoming impossible odds to achieve one's goals
Horse loves everywhere will love this pleasant film about a woman who's deadbeat husband abandons her, leaving her to find a job and a home for herself, her daughter and her horse. She finds all of the above at a stable; where relationships blossom and the future beings to look bright. This movie has good acting, average filming, a good plot and the flashbacks to when the lady was younger/the dynamics with her mother add to the storyline. This story was also loosely based on a true story. 7 out of 10.

The Movie turned out pretty good. It was really fun to make. Hallmark brought me out as a consultant, being that my Dad wrote the screen play based on me. There is a lot of truth in it and a lot that was started on truth and then hollywoodized. The actors and actresses where great. A lot nicer then I would have guessed. Julie Benz is such a fun and caring person. She had to overcome her fear of horses before filming and she did just that. The horse used as Tolo in the movie really liked her and they started to form a bond during filming. Marsha Mason was wonderful too. When we filmed parts of the movie about tolo going blind, it was tough on me. It brought back a lot of sad memories. I often found myself crying. Marsha was always there with a tissue for me and comforted me. Thank you Marsha. Thank you Julie for becoming a good friend to know. I really did have a horse that went blind and I competed on after overcoming some medical problems of my own. Sad to say my horse Tolo has since passed on, so this is very special to me to have a movie made about him. I hope everyone enjoys it. Amy
A good Hallmark film
I am a Julie Benz fan from her days on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the vampress Darla. I nice to see her in a good old Hallmark film. **Spoilers ahead** The film itself is what your expect from a Hallmark Drama. The shiftless husband abandons his wife and daughter with no money and a bank lien on their horse. She finds work on a horse ranch with the owner who lost her own daughter. Her horse goes blind and she finds a love interest in the local veterinarian. In order to save her horse from the bank she enters a horse dancing competition. This being a Hallmark film I am guessing you know how is will end. The fact is the Julie Benz, along with her young co-star, make this movie believable and enjoyable Hallmark movie.
Long Shot Is A Definite Thing ***1/2
This soap opera movie succeeds because it ties together strong family values in the face of tremendous adversity. We have 2 women, one of whom lost a daughter and the other a sister, who bond together. The film shows the above tragedies along with an abandonment of a wife and daughter, a horse that goes blind, and many other problems as well. Marsha Mason is quite good here as the mother whose daughter killed herself. She takes in the woman to work with horses after the latter's husband walks out on her with the child. To complicate matters, the former's mother blames her for the death of her sister years before. Stay with this film as triumph of life beats out adversity. Poor Julie Benz, as Mrs. Garrett. What she goes through-death of her sister, blame by her mother for her sister's death, a miserable marriage where her husband abandons her and her daughter, her dog going blind, her husband trying to sabotage her success in a competition by hurting the horse she is riding and thereby forcing her to ride her blinded horse instead. If Marsha Mason, the woman who takes her in, gets any heavier, she will be a definite look-alike for Shirley Knight. That aside, this is a wonderful film.
A woman and her daughter move after the husband/father leaves. There are many obstacles thrown at them, but they go against the odds, and by a long shot, they win!
I love this movie so much! I saw it on the hallmark channel and every chance I got to watch it, I would. Then, 2 years later, they stopped airing it. Now, I got it on DVD, and I love it a lot! I watch it all the time! It sort of gives me an 'edge of your seat' kind of feeling. When I discovered how mean Ross Garret was, I wanted to yell at him. I don't have a horse, but when I watch this movie, I put myself into Annie's shoes. Then, when Tolo goes blind, I want to cry. When he can't canter, I feel frustrated. I really get into this movie. My Oh my gosh what happened feeling kicks in when Annie gets hurt on the ladder. When Ross tries to cripple Red, I start screaming at the television, as though Ross can really hear me. Finally, when Tolo wins after going blind, I cry happy tears.
